Let’s face it– Beauty can be expensive!
Most women spend a lot on being and staying beautiful. The global female population reportedly spends over $426 billion a year on beauty products, many of which are toxic and damaging to the skin, hair, and nails.
As a working mom and having to juggle work, family and budgeting, I welcome anything, that is quick, easy, cost-effective and most of all…organic.
For me personally, skincare has been on the top of my priority list. My skin is the first to suffer from stress, poor eating habits, and dehydration (especially during the summer time).
Enter raw honey masks.
My good friend Anita, owner of Mind & Body Energetics, specializing in holistic wellness and organic products, was the first to turn me on to the uses of raw honey. Since then, I’ve done endless amounts of research on this and am convinced it is one of nature’s greatest wonders.
Raw honey (unpasteurized and unfiltered) has been prized for its healing properties since ancient civilization and people have been using raw honey masks as treatment for acne and lightening scars, spots, and blemishes. I’ve been using this once a week over several weeks for hydration and my skin feels refreshed and glowing!
Although there isn’t one single recipe, you can add in any variation of simple ingredients to customize this your skin type and needs.
Here are 3 of my Favorite Raw Honey Masks:
1. For Hydration
- 1 tablespoon of raw honey
- 1 tablespoon of mashed avocado
- 1 tablespoon of plain whole milk yogurt
- 1 egg yolk
Mix all ingredients in a small bowl until it becomes sticky and thick. Spread the mixture over your face and neck and let it sit for 5-10 minutes before washing it off with warm water. Lactic acid from the yogurt helps to smooth your skin, refine your pores, and stimulates collagen production. The avocado and yogurt are great for moisturizing and the egg helps to lighten up the skin.
2. For Acne
- 1/4 teaspoon of raw honey
- 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon
Sprinkle cinnamon into the raw honey and mix into a paste. Dab it on the trouble area. Leave it on for 15 minutes and rinse with warm water. The antibacterial properties of both honey and cinnamon are especially beneficial for acne-prone skin.
3. For Scars, Sunspots and Dark Spots
- 2 teaspoons raw honey
- 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
Combine the two ingredients and apply the mixture to your face and neck. Allow it to sit for 20 minutes before washing this off with warm water. Lemon juice exfoliates your skin, brightens dark spots and fades scars. Your skin will feel smooth and soft right away. This has become my weekly routine.
