Oscar Wilde said, “You can never be overdressed or overeducated.”
I believe that true wealth comes from having a tremendous amount of knowledge. With the daily grind, it’s a struggle to be well rounded, cultured and enriched. I don’t know of any successful person that isn’t well educated on world events and although I try and make time in my mornings to briefly scan CNBC and The Wall Street Journal (while look checking my Twitter page for the latest news), I’m often bombarded with work emergencies, early morning calls and chasing after the baby. Those are the days I feel like I am living under a rock.
Carly Zakin and Danielle Weisberg’s story is an inspiring one. These two ladies quit their jobs in media and launched The Skimm in 2012 — a daily comprehensive email newsletter summarizing the most important headlines with wit and wisdom. For you ladies out there who may not have time to read The New York Times back to back by 9am, your morning beckons this resource.
At its best, this is one of the most fun and informative delivery of headlines –tackling difficult issues in a way that people can quickly understand. It feels like good gossip over coffee time. Funny enough, it also made Oprah’s must-read newsletter list.
